B5 Factions

B5' science-fiction plot takes place in the middle of the 23rd century on a diplomatic station Babylon 5. In detail, it tells about peace, wars, intrigue and unexpected plot turns, not only the events formed a basis for several books, feature films, desktop and computer games, but also gave rise to many thousands army of fans.

Babylon 5 lived up to it's aim and joined many races. But it did not become the first or the last in it's quest for the emergence of certain groups. Cosmos gave gifts to someone and took from others. Extraordinary abilities united people, Centauri and other races, emerged the techno-mages. To control the telepaths, humans have created a powerful Psi-Corps. To maintain the order of the overall - the organisation of Rangers were created. But first things first...

Psi-Corps was founded on Earth even before people met alien civilisations and gradually grew to a major interplanetary organisation. The first telepaths began to appear in the second half of the 21st century, but the phenomenon of telepathy was officially recognised only in 2115. Almost immediately began a global panic and hunting adherents. Many feared that their innermost secrets and thoughts are known to all. To prevent these disorders, it was decided to create an organisation which is responsible for controlling psychic abilities. The first step was meta sensory Regulatory Committee, which was subsequently transformed into the Office for meta sensory  (MRA). It is a government agency that served as a prototype for the Psi Corps. It's formation introduced the practice of mandatory registration of telepathy. Throughout it's existence, it was led by the senator and his assistant Kevin Wasit.

However, not all went smoothly. In 2155 one hundred telepaths who were hiding from the authorities, committed suicide. And in 2156, happened the first contact with an alien race Centauri. When it turned out that the Centauri also have telepaths, it was rumoured about the "alien" nature of telepathy. New kind of panic started, and the government was desperately trying seek a way out of the tense situation. In 2158 the Earth Alliance President Elizabeth Robinson said Crawford about converting MRA into an organisation called Psi Corps. The reform process has taken several years, and in 2161 was announced the opening of the Psi Corps, which was to control all telepaths and regulate their relationship with ordinary people. He offered the post of director to Lee Crawford, but he died in a car accident, which was arranged by one of the resistance leaders of MRA. The first director of the Psi Corps became Kevin Wasit.

Psi Corps became a single agency, which consisted of several divisions: Psi police, military department, the department of research and development. The armed forces of the Earth used telepaths from the War department at the service of employment or in special intelligence unit. In normal military service telepaths were not allowed. Also Psi abilities had found it's commercial use. A merchant-telepath could maintain the reputation of the company.

To Identified telepaths Psi-corps offered three options: join the Psi Corps, to agree to life imprisonment or to take special drugs to suppress the psychic abilities. Of course, there were also dissenting. Most of them tried to escape, despite the danger of being caught by hunters from the Psi Corps. The first sign of the approaching storm were the events that took place in the "Babylon 5" in 2262, when a group of rogue telepaths sought asylum at the station, and then took some hostages and issued an ultimatum to Interstellar Alliance. Firstly the command staff of the station tried to resolve the conflict, but the outcome of the event was very sad. Two years later, the conflict escalated into a real war, which went down in history as the telepath war. The outcome of the war was the dissolution of the Psi Corps and changing legislation governing life telepaths. Nevertheless, the need for an organisation that would serve as a buffer between psy-adepts and ordinary beings still existed. This organisation became the Bureau of social integration telepaths. Also was organised a corps of observers, monitoring the implementation of the new legislation, this way they expanded the rights of telepaths  and they were able to enter the civil and military service.

The most famous telepaths - Psi Cop Alfred Bester and Lyta Alexander, whose abilities have been enhanced many times by mysterious and powerful Vorlons. After retiring from the Psi Corps, Lita became the main leader of the resistance telepaths.

To study the history of the Psi Corps, the Trilogy written by Gregory Keyes is best suited. it was written using notes by Straczynrky himself. From the first book the reader will learn about how telepathy was discovered, how Psi Corps was created and how to develop relations between ordinary people and telepaths. The second book is devoted to Alfred Bester, the most famous psi-cop from "Babylon 5". The book tells about the life of Bester from childhood to the time he has already taken place as the most dangerous psi-cop. The action of the final part of the trilogy takes place many years later, when the crisis has passed telepaths, and Psi Corps disbanded. From the novel we learn about the fate of Alfred Bester.

"I am Ranger. We live for the One, we die for the One. We go through dark places where no one has ever been! We stand on the bridge where no one shall pass."

Rangers organisation, or Anla'Shok, created by Minbari a thousand years before the opening of the station "Babylon 5". In 2258, shortly after the news of a returning race called Shadows, the head of the Rangers became the first commander of "Babylon 5", Earth man Jeffrey Sinclair, who left the station and went ambassador to Minbar. Before Sinclair joined Rangers and his proclamation of the first Ranger (Entil'Zha), the movement itself was poorly organised and limited to the territory of Minbar. But now every race could become a Ranger, not only the Minbari. The organisation began to grow and expand. Before the war, the Shadow Rangers were engaged in patrolling the borders, collecting and delivering important information. To help the main base of the Rangers on Minbar, were established several training camps in other worlds whose governments were sympathetic to the objectives of the Rangers.

After Jeffrey Sinclair resigned as Entil'Zha, the Rangers needed a new leader. Despite the objections of the Minbari warrior caste, Delenn became the ambassador to Minbar on "Babylon 5" , became the one. At the outbreak of the war, Shadow Rangers became the main force of the union, which opposed the old and treacherous race.

Shortly after the war, was created a new Interstellar Alliance, which included the Minbari Federation, the Centauri Republic, the Earth Alliance, Narn Regime and members of the defunct League of Non-Aligned Worlds. And the Rangers became the armed forces of the new union.

The ranger outfit resembles the clothing of Minbari warrior caste. The main piece outfit is a special brooch. On it are stylised images of human and Minbari, which is framed by the blue gem, and merge into the middle. They symbolise the unity of the two races in the face of a common enemy. Gemma, which  the Minbari call Isil'Za means future birth and the dawn of a new era.
