About Babylon 5

In the 90's i watched TV a lot, not like nowadays. I can't even remember when was the last time i seriously watched TV. I think it was sometime in 2007 when i accidentally stumbled upon a channel that showed my childhood favourite series Babylon 5. This series changed a lot of standards on how a television show should look and how important is to see every single episode. The creator of the series and WB network created a truly unique experiment airing on TV such complex storyline and keeping it alive for 5 seasons, seven full-lenght movies, a comic book series that very cleverly complements the main series, a spin-off series Crusade that unfortunately was cancelled, and a couple of books and short stories that are expanding the universe, all the way referencing many things from the show. I'll just say (not spoiling anything) that i truly know what happened to Marcus. After the great Babylon 5 success followed such masterpieces as Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Andromeda, Deep Space Nine and even Mass Effect game series is very inspired by it. The whole universe is very well thought and every single element is described in very scientific fashion. It has some fantasy elements but it's implemented in the story very organically, leaving a little mystery for the spectators, just like H. P. Lovecraft's stories. It's evident that Lovecraft alongside Clarke and Bester was in the big number of Babylon's inspirations. One of the best characters in the series even wears the name Alfred Bester and in his mannerisms he shows the exact copy of the real Alfred Bester. He talks and responds in the way the real mister Bester would do. The plot of Babylon 5 main series takes place in the future, starting with the year 2257. The station was build to prevent another war with aliens, because not long ago the humanity was almost wiped out by some major galactic force that was encountered in some space exploration mission. The Babylon station has the goal to resolve the intergalactic arguments without bloodshed. The first four stations have their own interesting histories in the universe. The first three were destroyed or sabotaged, but the stubborn humanity kept constructing the next one in the interest of intergalactic peace. One day they managed to build Babylon 5, that was destined for great achievements. Ah yes, the fourth station just disappeared being operational only for 24 hours and then POW. The Mystery. Of course i don't want to spoil it. The earth plays a major role in the story, but the plot most of the time focuses on the station's problems showing how hard it is to maintain a whole city, all alone in the night. The earth is ruled by bureaucratic EearthGov., but slowly is descending to some kind of totalitarian society ruled by the mighty PsiCorps. The dystopic earth even manages to produce a civil war between the members of Night Watch and good citizens of the earth that are fighting for freedom and are enough patriots to defend the earth constitution, even if it means breaking a few eggs. By breaking a few eggs i mean the will to object against the following of an illegally sanctioned orders by the false government leaders whose interest are to destroy the thin balance that keeps the earth ticking and not descending into totally anarchic chaos. Many themes from Babylon 5 series are at a great extent present in Metal Gear saga created by legendary Hideo Kojima, just saying if somebody is interested and haven't already played his games. The station itself is build to accommodate a big number of different alien creatures. It is divided in many sectors that contain the residences of all alien ambassadors. Some exotic aliens even require different gas compositions to breathe, so humans must wear a breathe-masks to pass through their sectors.
